Simmons has released a new version of the popular Titan 50 drum kit, the Titan 50 B-EX, which is an expanded version of the original.

Looking at the specs of the Titan 50 B-EX, it appears to mostly be the same as the original Titan 50 except for the fact that that it comes packaged with an extra tom and cymbal pad right out of the box. So it has 4 toms and 4 cymbals whereas the original only had 3 of each.

So if you had been interested in the Titan 50 along with the expansion pack, this new kit has it all in one box. Looking at current prices, the Titan 50 is still priced at $399 and the expansion pack is priced at $49, for a total of about $450. Which is what this new Titan 50 B-EX costs. So there’s really no cost advantage to going with either.

I like the look of the newer version a little more. It has a sleek, black finish all the way around, even on the kick tower, to give it a newer look.

If you’re looking for more features and advantages over the original Titan 50, there’s not really anything to be found here in that regard. However, it’s nice to be able to buy the fully expanded kit with the new color and finish all in one box. I’ve noticed that my local Guitar Center doesn’t stock the original Titan 50 anymore, all they have now is the B-EX, so that must be the direction Simmons is going with this one. It’s basically still the Titan 50 with a fresh coat of paint and the expansion pack included.
